مترجم: دکتر حاجی‌محمد قلی‌پور: دستیار چشم‌پزشکی- دانشگاه علوم پزشکی شهید بهشتی             دکتر سیامک مرادیان: دانشیار- چشم‌پزشک- دانشگاه علوم پزشکی شهید بهشتی * این مقاله ترجمه‌ای از مجموعه “Focal Point” مربوط به ماه March سال 2013 با عنوان “Anisocoria” می‌باشد. مقدمه      عملکرد مردمک شامل کنترل حجم ورودی به شبکیه، افزایش عمق فوکوس سامانه اپتیکی چشم و کم کردن اعوجاج‌های کروی محیط عدسی و قرنیه می‌باشد. علاوه بر این فعالیت‌ها، قطر مردمک و حرکات مردمک تحت شرایط نوری مختلف، اطلاعات بالینی ارزشمندی را در ارزیابی بالینی بیماران در اختیار ما قرار می‌دهند. مردمک از نظر بالینی مهم است چون یک شاخص عینی (objective) از میزان نور ورودی است و می‌تواند برای ارزیابی سلامت شبکیه و عصب بینایی استفاده شود. مردمک هم‌چنین یک شاخص حساس از وضعیت عصب‌گیری ماهیچه‌های عنبیه می‌باشد. عدم تقارن مردمک‌ها (آنیزوکوریا) نشان‌دهنده اختلال اعصاب خودکار وارد به عنبیه می‌باشد. در این متن، ارزیابی و درمان آنیزوکوریا بررسی می‌شود.
